            ORIN

            ODU

            Edi Iwori says:

            1.       Ela Iwori it is who saves the world from ruin:
                      When the world of Obalufe became confused,
                      Ela Iwori it was who restored order into it;
                      When the covenant-breakers of Akila spoilt the town,
                      Ela Iwori it was who put things right for the people;
                      When day turned into night in the town of Okerekese,
                      And sages of the place were baffled,
                      Ela Iwori it was who came to the aid of Oluyori,
                           its king, with the remedy;
                      Whenever Elegbara plans to turn the world upside down,
                      Ela Iwori it is who obstructs him;
                      Ela Iwori receives no money (as remuneration),
                      Ela Iwori receives no kola-nuts,
                      Yet he it is who rectifies unhappy destinies.
                      Ela indeed made old age;
                      Ela indeed made long life;
                      He made Odundun king of leaves,
                      He made Irosun his priest;
                      He made the Ocean king of waters,
                      He made the Lagoon his priest;
                      After all, and in the end,
                      They pronounced that Ela had not conducted the
                           world in the right way;
                      Ela was offended; he stretched out a rope and ascended into heaven;
                      The inhabitants of the world changed tune and have since
                           been calling out:
                      Ela, descending, must come back to bless,
                      Ela, descending.
