Egungun Exercise

 

1.           Write out your family tree.  Include only the names of your direct line (i.e. mother, father; grandmother and grandfather on the mother's side; grandmother and grandfather on the father's side; great-grandmother and grandfather on the mother's side; great-grandmother and grandfather on the father's side, etc., etc).  Use the following tree structure.

(YOUR NAME)

                              (MOTHER’S MOTHER)

                                     

2.    Circle the names of the deceased members of the family tree.

3.    Then write a twenty-five word statement which positively describes the character of your ancestors as a group.

4.    Be prepared to tell a short family story about a deceased member of your family.  (The story must have a beginning, middle and end.)

5.    Bring a strip of colorful fabric.

6.           Bring one or more of the following items for the setting and properties of the exercise:

White table cloth.
White chalk.
A bowl for water.
A large glass.
A vase for flowers.
Flowers.
Cologne.
A wooden staff from the forest.
Yellow corn meal.
Sugar.
Soft drinks or juice.
Cookies, cupcakes.
Paper plates.
Paper cups.
 Napkins.
